Music Festival
Involved as the Institute is in a wide range of academic and cultural activities, the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda is celebrated by organizing a day-long festival of Indian Classical Music, of which Swamiji was an ardent admirer. Over the years steadfast effort has been made to keep the standard of this festival on a high pedestal with eminent artists participating from all over the country. And for those who love classical music, this annual event is eagerly awaited for the opportunity it provides for the blissful enjoyment of enchanting melody. Incidentally, the 12 January concert is telecast in the national network.
Besides, periodic concerts are held regularly with both renowned and upcoming artists. Documentaries on various themes, especially on Indian Classical Music and Dance, Folk Art etc are screened.
Symposiums and Lectures
Throughout the year the Institute runs a busy schedule of lectures, symposia, study circles, and scripture classes through which knowledge, both modern and ancient, is imparted to the public. Symposiums on the lives and teachings of Sri Ramakrishna and his monastic and lay disciples, Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda and his admirers are held. Popular lectures on various topics and discourses on scriptures are also held regularly in Sanskrit, English, Bengali, and Hindi languages.
Cultural Competitions
To awaken the latent creativity among the youngsters, debates, art competitions and recitation competitions are organized for the members of the children library and the students of School of Languages. Moreover, an All India Elocution Competition in English, Bengali, Hindi and Sanskrit are also organized for the youth.
The members of the Children’s Library also take part in an annual cultural programme to celebrate the autumnal festival. A programme called Mahishasurmardini is presented through songs and recitations.
Celebrations
The Foundation Day of the Institute falls on 29 January. The day is marked by celebrations where the participants of the Institutes present their performances through songs, reading from inspiring texts and other such programmes in the morning. The Foundation Day Oration is delivered in the evening by an eminent scholar.
To mark the birth anniversaries of Sri Ramakrishna, Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda, a colourful procession is taken out through the streets to an open stadium nearby. Reading from the texts of the Holy Trio, singing devotional songs and discourses are held there.
The Saraswati Puja is also held at the Institute with great reverence, the Institute of Culture being a seat of learning and culture. Thousand of devotees, students and admirers flock to the Institute to participate in the worship. |
